This course covers a range of units including:

  • Principles of building construction, information and communication
  • Maintain and use carpentry and joinery hand tools
  • Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools
  • Produce woodworking joints
  • Health, safety and welfare in construction

Your maths and English will be developed within the main course to ensure you have all the skills required to enter into sustainable employment. On your programme of study you will develop these essential skills as you work towards achieving your qualification. Within your programme of study you will also develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for further study or your working life.

Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course but you should be committed to the course and interested in working in the construction industry. You will need to attend an interview before being accepted on to this course.

Assessment

Progression

Successful completion of this course may lead to employment or you may be able to continue with your training by becoming an apprentice or joining the Level 2 Carpentry or Joinery course.
Former students from the construction department have gone on to work within the industry or have even set up their own businesses. Many are now helping to train the workforce of the future as they have also taken on apprentices of their own.
