This course is for those looking to start an exciting new career as a beauty therapist in the world of beauty.
A practical, hands-on course, it will equip you with the skills, knowledge and understanding you will need to perform professional beauty treatments on peers and clients. This course will also prepare you for employment or further training within the beauty Industry. If you are interested in working with people and would like opportunities to travel and a variety of different jobs, then a career in beauty therapy could be for you.
We have modern facilities which replicate realistic working salons. This is where the majority of your practical learning will take place at your chosen campus.
You will study theory and practical in the following topic areas;
- Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risk to health and safety
- Promote additional services and products to customers
- Develop and maintain effectiveness at work
- Manicure and Pedicure – professional treatments of the hands and feet
- Facial Treatments – to include skincare techniques and facial massage
- Eyebrow and Lash Treatments – including lash and brow tinting, eyebrow shaping
- Carry out waxing services
- Applied Science – study of anatomy and physiology
- Provide Make-up services
- Enhance appearance using skin camouflage
East Coast College is a great place to start your learning journey within an industry that is exciting, challenging and creative. There are additional enrichment events/courses where you will have the opportunity to learn new skills that are current within the sector at that time. Additional certification will be awarded for this. External trips include a visit to Professional Beauty in London which is hosted annually at The London Excel.
You will need to have achieved at least four GCSEs at grade 4 or above.
This course is for anyone interested in a career in the health and beauty industry.
The aim of the course is to equip you with the necessary skills and attributes that are required in order to provide a variety of beauty services to clients.
Assessed both practically and by means of GOLA online tests which are taken at the end of each unit. Practical assessments are performed on paying clients and must be completed in a commercially acceptable timescale. Evidence from these will go towards building a portfolio of evidence. Some other written work will be required for projects and assignments.
This course can lead to employment within the Beauty Sector. Career opportunities include:
- Working in a salon
- Mobile therapist
- Retailing with various product houses
- Special occasion services (weddings or proms).
There are also opportunities for continued study in further and higher education based around the differing pathways within the sector at the next level. It is recommended to progress to Beauty Therapy Level 3. Apprenticeships within Beauty are also an option.
