You will have the opportunity to gain a college certificate within a varied curriculum based on practical experiences and meaningful learning.
You will develop the basic skills required in everyday life such as active listening skills, being able to work effectively as part of a team, maintaining focus on a task, the ability to follow instructions, make decisions, plan, organise and maintain your own safety. We hope this will lead to you building greater confidence, self-esteem and resilience for the future.
You will study topics that include:
- Develop team working skills
- Community projects and ways to help others
- Recognising own rights and responsibilities
- Preparing for employment and work experience
- Use local leisure facilities
- Take exercise
- English and maths
Trips and visits that you may take part in:
- Local leisure facilities
- Local shops
- Cinema and theatre
- Local environmental projects
You will also have the opportunity to take part in projects that include volunteering, work experience, making and selling crafts and offering a service.
This course is three days per week and takes place from 9am-4pm.
Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements, you just need an enthusiastic and mature approach to education and learning. You will also need excellent attendance and timekeeping throughout the course.
Progression
You can progress onto another year in Foundation and Progression. Some of our students move into community-based provision.
