Our Sport courses offer eighteen different modules designed specifically for those interested in a career in sport.

You will combine practical lessons and academic studies with the development of your sport and exercise skills, leadership, problem solving, communication and coaching.

Alongside these units, you will also complete additional sporting qualifications such as a Level 2 Gym Instructing award. These qualifications are recognised by sporting industry providers which allows greater variety of progression into your desired sports career.

  • Anatomy and physiology for sport
  • Planning and leading sports activities
  • Nutrition
  • Fitness testing
  • Fitness training and programming
  • Sports coaching

You will also be given access to a range of work experience opportunities in a variety of different sport, health and exercise roles, and are required to complete work experience as part of the course. Opportunities in the past have included work with local primary and secondary schools, in sports coaching and with local sports clubs, in the fitness and leisure industries, and with a range of health and wellbeing providers. Our work experience coordinator will help you to find opportunities that suit you and help you develop and prepare you for career.

 

Requirements

You will need to have achieved at least four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and maths.

Assessment

Assessment will be through the successful completion of a portfolio of evidence. Evidence will be generated through:

  • Practical assessments
  • Demonstrations
  • Group assessments
  • Self-reflection
  • Written assessments

Progression

You can progress onto the FdSc/BSc (Hons) Sport, Health and Exercise degree through the University of Suffolk at East Coast College or other universities.

You can also progress into employment in careers such as a fitness and personal trainer, sports therapist, sports coach, play worker, nutritionist and sports psychologist.
