East Coast College’s Level 3 Media Make Up students got to see just how much work goes in to a catwalk show when they were asked to create some striking looks for Norwich Fashion Week.
The students were lucky enough to be involved in Dipple and Conway’s hair and make-up show and had to come up with a series of looks inspired by Shakespeare’s works.
Laura Allen, Loren Jackson, Emma Pinder and Mary Short together with course lecturer Jodie Cheek took on the challenge and had to create looks for six models. Working together, the team created mood-boards for their initial concepts which were used as inspiration for the costumes, headdresses and avant-garde hair and make-up.
Jodie said: “The students faced many obstacles on the day of the show – Different models, models that didn’t show up, costumes that didn’t work or fit! But none of this fazed them and they did a fantastic job and have had their work praised by industry professionals in hair and make-up artistry.”
As well as gaining fantastic experience, the students also had their looks photographed by the likes of Jonny Human and were able to collaborate with hair stylists including Mikey Bishop (a current Level 3 hairdressing student at the college), Kelly Mullender and Kayleigh Jermy, who also trained at East Coast College.
Norwich Fashion Week brings together the city’s retail sector and showcases the emerging talent of students from the area. The creative talents of the students from Lowestoft must have made a big impact on the show’s organisers as the college has already been asked to take part next year.
