Prerequisites
Seafarers with six months or more sea service prior to August 1998 and were exempt from basic safety courses.
Seafarers must have a PST certificate and who have maintained the required standard of competence by onboard training and experience for all competences listed in the self-declaration form.
Submission of the signed self-declaration form prior to courses commencement.
Course Content
This is a Refresher course for the MCA approved Personal Survival Techniques training; that provides knowledge and practice of survival techniques and principles that can be applied to maximise the probability of survival following a marine accident.
Course content covered:
– Actions prior to abandonment of the vessel
– Basic principles of survival
– Types of survival equipment provided on board ship
– Training and drills
– Correct use of the lifejacket and entering the water from a height
– Launching of a liferaft
– Righting of a capsized liferaft
– Wet and dry boarding of a liferaft
– Bringing aboard an injured casualty
– Hypothermia and other medical factors
– Liferaft first aid
– Liferaft equipment
– Actions to aid location by rescuers
Training is delivered through a combination of theory and practical sessions.
