Prerequisites
UK or equivalent MCA recognised Class 2/Chief Mate Unlimited Certificate of Competency and 36 months acceptable sea service since obtaining a Class 3/4 or OOW Certificate.
If the NVQ Level 4 route was followed to Chief Mate certification, a minimum 12 months’ sea service as a watchkeeping Chief Mate while holding STCW Table A II/2 Certificate of Competency (Chief Mate) or Class 2 certification.
Candidates must hold a valid STCW certificate in ‘Proficiency in Medical Care Aboard Ship’, a valid MCA recognised STCW GMDSS certificate and a personal medical fitness certificate recognised by the MCA before taking their MCA Orals.
You will also have a MCA Oral examination subject to valid NOE.
Course Content
This course prepares candidates for the Master (Unlimited) MCA Oral examination. You will receive tuition, guided study and exam practice in preparation for the MCA Oral exam.
The following subjects will receive particular attention during the course:
– Seamanship
– Shipboard Operations
– Magnetic Compass
– Shipmaster’s Business and Law
– MCA oral exam (arranged during final week of course)
Presentations on other topics may be arranged where the whole group would benefit. Tutorials will be delivered as formal lectures and/or demonstrations as appropriate, supplemented by group discussion, question and answer sessions and directed study.
Candidates are also encouraged to make full use of other learning resources, including the on-site library, Internet access and training software.
