Our BTEC Higher National in Digital Technologies qualification offers an exciting and informative study programme, with a specialist route in Software Development and Programming at Level 4.

The programme will suit those progressing from a Level 3 qualification in a related subject or those in related employment looking to upskill/retrain for the digital sector or to gain qualification for existing skills.

You will study units including:

  • Professional Practice in the Digital Economy
  • Innovation and Digital Transformation
  • Cyber Security
  • Programming
  • Big Data and Visualisation
  • Networking in the Cloud
  • Database Design and Development
  • Software Development Lifecycles

You will be supported to gain the knowledge and skills you will need to progress to higher education or employment with core competencies throughout the curriculum to support lifelong learning skills for personal and professional development.

The course offer assessments that consider cognitive skills (what students know) along with effective and applied skills (how they behave and what they can do) to support a practical and dynamic approach to learning with unit-specific assessment designed to encourage thorough and analytical learning, challenge students and develop skills in critical thinking, personal responsibility and decision making.

The Pearson approved qualification is awarded the HTQ kitemark providing assurance to professional organisations, universities, businesses and students of the integrity and value of the qualifications through a programme of learning designed to meet skills gaps in the current workforce and build today’s talent to meet tomorrow’s needs in an international environment.

You will gain a wide range of knowledge tied to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. You will also be involved in vocational activities to help develop vocational behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for a competence) and transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and the workplace.

Requirements

You will need 60 UCAS tariff points or above (or the equivalent), Pass A*-C (T Level). All applicants are required to hold GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.

We also welcome applicants who do not hold these qualifications. Applicants will be considered on an individual basis based upon their overall application and the course applied for. We will consider previous and current employment and previous experience in place of the stated qualifications above.

Progression

After studying a Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Digital Technologies, you will have sound knowledge of the concepts of digital technology. You will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as general skills and qualities relevant to key areas of digital-technology-related business. You could progress to higher education or employment.
