This course is new for 2023 and is aimed at students aged 16 who want a pathway/career within the construction sector, but do not meet the entry requirements for our Level 1 courses in the construction trades.

This course will build your confidence to perform practical construction tasks, while developing your literacy and numeracy skills. You will also complete a theory unit around health and safety within the construction sector.

You will carry out practical tasks such as:

  • Wall and floor tiling
  • Plastering
  • Painting and decorating including applying paints to a range of surfaces, wallpapering and paint effects.

There will also be the opportunity to use your skills on community projects which will expand on your previously gained skills and include other construction-related tasks such as:

  • Laying paving slabs
  • Creating gravel paths
  • General construction groundwork tasks

You do not need any formal qualifications to undertake this course, but will need to have a genuine interest in the construction industry. You will also be required to complete an interview with our course tutor.

Assessment will be predominately through practical tasks, with one health and safety writing assignment.

Successful completion of this course could result in progression to other construction courses within the college or employment within the industry.
