Course: Automotive (Motor Vehicle)

This course will give you the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to work in the current automotive industry. It is a 3 year programme, with each year building on the last to support learner’s development.
You will study theory in a classroom, with modern rigs and resources. Practical lessons will be in our fully equipped workshops, with a full MOT test lane and modern diagnostic equipment (Lowestoft Campus). Students from the programme also have access to the online learning platform LJ Create. Our lecturers still work within the industry to ensure you have the latest information regarding your future career.

We have 2 clear pathways based on entry requirements:
- Independent Pathway – Minimum maths and English Grade 3
- Main Dealership Pathway – Minimum maths and English Grade 4
We will discuss at interview the best pathway for you.
To study the Independent Pathway you will need a minimum of Grade 3 in English and maths.
To study the Main Dealership Pathway you will need a minimum of Grade 4 in English and maths.
There will be a variety of assessments throughout the course, the majority of these will be practical and there will be online assignments and online exams. All IMI work will be completed on the IMI online ePortfolio system.
You can progress to employment or an apprenticeship.
We have a number of ex-students who are working at both independent garages and main dealerships including Robinsons Audi, Lings Honda, Mitchells Renault, John Grose Ford and Kia, Simpsons Skoda and more. One is working within the motorsport industry and another is currently setting up his own dyno tuning and mapping business.
