You will have the opportunity to gain a college certificate that is tailored to meet your individual needs.
This course is designed for you to develop basic life skills needed to look after yourself and your home. This is all done in a practical and fun way with the aim to give you a level of independence and allow you to make relevant choices.
You will be taught a variety of basic life skills such as making a drink and simple snack to washing and folding clothes. You will be taught about the importance of personal care and how to stay safe in your home as well as out in the community.
You will also develop your travel independence skills where you will be taught how to access the local community and cross roads safely. There will also be the chance for you to undertake work experience to further develop your independent and life skills.
You will study topics that include:
- Being a householder
- Healthy living
- Using technology
- Community participation
- Social skills – interacting with others and group work
- Learning from a new experience
- English and maths
Trips and visits that you may take part in:
- Leisure facilities
- Local shops
- Work experience destinations
- TITAN practice
You will also have the opportunity to take part in volunteering, work experience, making and selling crafts and signing Makaton.
This course is three days per week and takes place from 9am-4pm.
There are no specific entry requirements, you just need an enthusiastic and mature approach to education and learning. You will also need excellent attendance and timekeeping throughout the course.
You can progress onto another year in Foundation and Progression. Some of our students move into community-based provision and we will support you with this.
