This is a specialised course designed to develop the basic life skills needed to look after yourself and your home through practical activities. The purpose of this is to teach you why these skills are important for your own safety and wellbeing.
You will learn about being a householder, healthy living, using technology, community participation, TITAN, social skills and interacting with others, group work, enterprise and learning from new experiences. English and maths will also be promoted through qualifications or lessons.
You will have the opportunity to gain a college certificate within a curriculum that is tailored to meet all of your needs. The course is focused on teaching basic life skills which are needed to be able to look after yourself and your home. This is all done in a practical and fun way, with the aim to give you a good level of independence.
You will be taught a variety of basic life skills such as how to make a drink and simple snacks, to washing and folding clothes. You will be taught about the importance of personal care and how to stay safe in the home as well as out and about in the community. You will also develop your travel and independence skills through the TITAN framework which teaches you how to access the local community and cross roads safely. You will also get the opportunity to undertake work experience and further develop your independence and life skills.
Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements, you just need an enthusiastic and mature approach to education and learning. You will also need excellent attendance and timekeeping throughout the course.
Progression
You could progress to another year in Foundation and Progression, or you could move into community provision and we will support you with this.
