This course is designed for those who need a higher level of support, need to learn valuable life and personal skills and who enjoy doing this through developing customer service, gardening and volunteering skills.
You will have the opportunity to gain a college certificate within a curriculum that is bespoke and tailored to meet your individual needs. You will have the opportunity to try lots of different learning opportunities.
This course is focused on developing your skills for life with the aim to give you independence and allow you to make relevant choices.
You will study topics that include:
- Gardening
- Working in a shop
- Volunteering
- Community projects and helping others
- Cooking and housework
- Special Olympics
- English and maths
Projects that you may take part in:
- Volunteering
- Work experience
- Gardening and plant sales
- Creation and upkeep of our wellbeing garden
- Taking part in the Roots and Shoots or Crest awards
- Opportunity to work with and learn from employers whilst working in the shop
If you are a talented gardener, you could be entered for the World Skills UK Horticulture award.
This course is three days per week and takes place 9am-4pm.
Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements, you just need an enthusiastic and mature approach to education and learning. You will also need excellent attendance and timekeeping throughout the course.
Progression
You could progress onto another year in Foundation and Progression. Some of our students also move into community-based provision and some may take up voluntary work.
