This qualification is designed to develop your knowledge and awareness of dementia, to gain an understanding of the causes and symptoms of dementia, the impact it has on individuals, and the importance of person-centred care. The course also explores communication strategies and the role of carers and support networks.

The qualification consists of four mandatory units that cover:

  • Dementia awareness
  • The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
  • Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
  • Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care

If you fall under the below categories, you are able to be fully funded for the course:

  • Low income – Earning under £25,750 annually before tax. (£2,083.30 monthly / £495.19 weekly)
  • UC – On universal credit and taking home £952 (single) or £1534 (joint)
  • Unemployed and seeking employment.
  • Receiving ESA/JSA

Requirements

There are no specific learning requirements. You will require appropriate level of literacy and willingness to complete the assessment criteria.

Assessment

This is a knowledge-only qualification assessed through a portfolio of evidence, covering 4 units of work that is to be completed in your own time and requires some further reading.

Progression

This qualification supports progression to Level 3 Health and Social Care qualifications. You may also progress to employment in social care settings or pursue further study in dementia care. This course provides a strong foundation for those wishing to advance their career in adult care.
