This course will equip you with the skills, knowledge and fundamental understanding of sport to enable you to move on to university, or another form of advanced education or training.

You may study the following units:

  • Fitness Training: Practical Skills
  • Placement Practice
  • Human Anatomy
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Psychology for Exercise and Physical Activity
  • Sport, Physical and Exercise Event Planning
  • Principles of Sport, Health and Fitness Professions
  • Fitness Testing and Training
  • Nutrition for Health and Fitness
  • Exercise for Specific Populations
  • Sport Science Research Project

You can move on to sport science, biomechanics, health or exercise-based degree programmes such as FdSc/BSc (Hons) Sport, Health and Exercise.

Requirements

A sufficient standard of numeracy and English Language is needed to cope with the demands of the course. We strongly advise you to have a GCSE in English language and maths at grade C or above as the majority of university providers will require this.

All students will undertake diagnostic assessment to assess these skills during the course interview or induction process and you will be required to demonstrate that you can work at level 2 in these subject areas. Students may be able to study for one GCSE in either English Language or maths alongside the Access course. This will be discussed during the Access interview process.

Progression

You can move on to sport science, biomechanics, health or exercise-based degree programmes such as FdSc/BSc (Hons) Sport, Health and Exercise.
