Former students have gone on to work within the industry or have even set up their own businesses. Many are now helping to train the workforce of the future as they have taken on apprentices of their own.

"We are proud to be working with East Coast College and the carpentry and bricklaying students to provide practical advice and skills and a chance to find out what it is like to work in the construction industry. This year we launched our Target 50 initiative which aims to encourage more females to look at career opportunities in the construction sector and our commitment to bring 50 female apprentices or technical trainees into construction-related roles this year. The initiative forms part of Persimmon’s 50th anniversary celebrations and supports our commitment to building and retaining a more diverse and inclusive workforce. Persimmon Homes has a strong working relationship with East Coast College. The students we have on apprenticeship with us are both hardworking and keen to learn, and are well supported by the college. We feel this is a mutually beneficial arrangement as the students gain valuable experience in the construction industry to support their college course."
