In 2014 Josh entered the Skill Weld competition and after a motorsport accident resulting in a broken back and not only did he manage to walk again, he achieved a Bronze medal in welding – acknowledging him as the 3rd best welder in the country!  Josh’s tutor Mark Shanks was especially proud of his young student explaining that “he was the youngest welder there as most competitors are in their final year, but Josh has proved he has a real talent”.  Joshua was then invited back to the NEC to compete for a place in the UK Squad for a chance to compete in Abu Dhabi in 2017 putting him in the top thirty of the world. It has now been confirmed, he has made the UK Squad for a chance to compete in Abu Dhabi in 2017 putting him in the top thirty of the world. He has received outstanding support from L & G Engineering, the welding tutors at Great Yarmouth College and his family, and they are all delighted that Josh has made it to the UK Squad and will be competing at Gothenburg in December.

In addition to this, Josh has been entered for the ‘Apprentice Of The Year’ Award for the East of England region, and has now been named as a finalist in the National Apprenticeship Awards 2016. Josh was also named ‘overall apprentice of the year’ at the College Annual Apprenticeship Awards 2016.
