Foundation Skills

GYC-48

Foundation Skills is designed to provide a more supported route towards vocational learning, independent living or supported work. Students with learning difficulties and disabilities, or students who have had support at school often study in Foundation Skills.

On our programmes you will gain confidence and develop practical skills for life and for the workplace.

All our classes are small and friendly with lots of support, whenever you need it. You can work at your own pace, and on some courses, have the chance to take extra certificates. Our students have even run a café in the local community, the Smiles café.

Key elements:

  • Maths and English
  • Work experience
  • Volunteering
  • Enrichment activities, for example: Duke of Edinburgh award, sport, IT and catering
  • Developing confidence
  • Getting involved in your community

  1. To grow your confidence, learn new skills and have fun.
  2. To move into supported internships and get a job
  3. To get involved and contribute to your community.
  4. To ensure you are on the right course and your individual needs are met.
  5. To develop your individual skills and talents.

Many of our learners move onto employment including jobs in pharmacy, catering, domestics, theatre recovery, logistics, health care assistants and many more.

What can I go on to do?

  • Progress from Entry 3 to the wider college study programmes
  • Progress to Project Search
  • Progress to employment

Some of our courses are offered at entry level 1, 2 and 3. We will match the course and level to your learning needs and your goals and ambitions.
