Starting a new college is a big thing and you’re likely to have lots of questions about the College, the course and being a student. Many of the questions you have about the courses will be answered in the study pages, but here are a few more people often ask. If you can’t find what you’re looking for and would prefer to speak to someone, please ring 0800 854 695 to talk to our team in Student Services.

What happens after I’ve applied?

After your application form has been returned to the College, we will send you a letter to confirm we have received your application and will also let you know of any key dates for interviews and any assessments you will be invited to. You will also be sent information about enrolment which usually happens during the summer.

Can we have a look around East Coast College and meet the lecturers?

If you would like to have a look around the College and meet the teaching team, come along to one of our open events. You’ll be able to find out more about the course and see the facilities too including the workshops, salons and classes you will be using. Our main open events are in March and November but we also hold other events throughout the year – keep an eye on our website for upcoming dates and times. If you can’t make it to one of our open events, please speak to our team in student services who may be able to arrange a tour for you.

What happens during the first weeks of college?

The first two weeks are induction weeks which will be your chance to find out more about the College and what you will be doing throughout the year. You will be given information about timetables, have a look round the workshops, classrooms or salons you will be using, as well as some of the other facilities such as the canteen, LRC and common rooms. During these weeks you will also be able to get to know other people on your course and may be able to take part in team building activities too.

How many hours will I spend in college each week?

This will vary from course to course but is usually between 12 and 22 hours. On top of this, you will also be expected to complete extra work outside of college sessions.
