Survival pool

Lowestoft College’s purpose built Environmental Survival Pool can realistically simulate hostile sea conditions in controlled safety; wind, waves, rain, varying visibility and a range of sound effects all contribute to produce a testing environment in which personnel can gain the skills needed to survive.

  • Wave height to 1.5m
  • Pool depth 5m, actual water depth 4m
  • 6 fans delivering up to force 6 equivalent wind
  • Variable level lighting down to total blackout
  • Ceiling mounted sound system (3000 watts through 6 speakers)
  • Travelling crane over pool S.W.L. 1 tonne
  • Load in/out crane to outside S.W.L. 1 tonne
  • Platform above west end of pool 3m above water
  • Helicopter rescue winch on platform
  • Scrambling net from platform
