A new chapter began today as East Coast College officially broke ground on its transformative Great Yarmouth Campus Redevelopment Project. The multi-million-pound project, funded by the Department for Education and delivered in partnership with Kier, marks a significant investment in the future of teaching, learning and community engagement across the region.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on-site at the Great Yarmouth Campus, brought together senior college leadership, staff, students, Kier, DfE, and representatives from local authorities to celebrate the start of construction on the state-of-the-art college campus.

Paul Padda, Principal and Chief Executive Officer at East Coast College, said: “The groundbreaking of our new campus marks a significant milestone in the history of the college. This investment will provide state-of-the-art facilities that empower our students to achieve their full potential, support our staff in delivering excellence in teaching and learning, and strengthen our role as a partner to the wider community. This development represents our enduring commitment to advancing education, innovation, and opportunity for generations to come.”

Chris Lilley, Regional Director of Kier Construction Eastern & Midlands, said: “East Coast College is a landmark project due to the scale of teaching facilities on offer, and we look forward to continuing the great work that we have done to date with both the College and the Department for Education. We will use our extensive expertise in delivering first-class educational facilities to build a campus that will support students to achieve their full potential and inspire future generations, as well as benefitting the local community.”

The innovative development will feature cutting-edge, sustainable building on the existing East Coast College site. The college offers high-quality career-focused education for young people and adults, including apprenticeships, vocational qualifications, through to degree-level and professional courses.
The new campus will offer a more modern and flexible learning environment, enabling the college to meet employers’ current and future training needs. This investment will expand opportunities for local people to upskill and retrain.

The redevelopment will also bring a whole host of benefits to the local area. Plans include revitalised green spaces, publicly accessible salons and sports facilities, and a new on-site training restaurant, all designed to build strong connections between the college and the community it serves.
East Coast College expects to open the door to its new campus in Spring 2028.
