This qualification is designed to increase your knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental well-being. Exploring the concept of mental wellbeing and how we can promote good mental health.
You will be supported to explore the issues around substance misuse and the criminal justice system and how these can impact and be impacted by mental ill health. You will explore types of mental ill health, therapies and treatments.
The qualifications consist of a range of core units:
- Understanding the context of mental health and wellbeing
- Promotion of mental health and wellbeing
- Mental health problems: associated issues and consequences
- Understanding mental ill health
- Working in mental health
If you fall under the below categories, you are able to be fully funded for the course:
- Low income – Earning under £25,750 annually before tax. (£2,083.30 monthly / £495.19 weekly)
- UC – On universal credit and taking home £952 (single) or £1534 (joint)
- Unemployed and seeking employment.
- Receiving ESA/JSA
Requirements
To get the most from this course, Level 2 literacy is recommended. If you’d like to build your literacy skills first, there are development options available. You should be ready to work independently and complete assignments outside of class time.
You may find it helpful if they have already achieved a Level 2 Mental Health qualification, or qualifications in health care or social care contexts. Entry to this course is at the discretion of the college.
Assessment
This is a knowledge-only qualification assessed through a portfolio of evidence, covering 5 units of work that is to be completed in your own time and requires some further reading.
Progression
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care, or higher education in health and social care fields.
