The SZC Construction Operative Programme is a two-week pre-employment course designed to help individuals develop the knowledge, skills, and certifications needed to work on major construction and infrastructure projects, including opportunities within the Sizewell C supply chain.

Combining accredited training, industry insight, and employability support, the programme prepares candidates to enter the workplace safely, confidently, and job-ready.

What you’ll gain

Successful participants will work towards:

  • Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment
  • CITB Health, Safety and Environment Operatives Test
  • CSCS Green Labourer Card
  • Understanding of Sizewell C Values and Nuclear Behaviours
  • Daily safety briefings reflecting real site practices
  • Essential workplace safety awareness, including:
    • Manual Handling
    • Fire Awareness
    • Abrasive Wheels
    • Working at Height
    • Working with Hand and Power Tools
    • Confined Spaces

Learn about working at Sizewell C

Throughout the programme, you’ll gain valuable insight into:

  • The importance of the Sizewell C project
  • How nuclear energy works
  • Site safety culture and life-saving rules
  • Working conditions, travel arrangements and security requirements
  • Site roles, career pathways and progression opportunities
  • The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) and wider supply chain opportunities
  • Hear directly from industry professionals and members of the Sizewell C team

This course is due to start on the 27 August and finishes on the 14 September. Monday – Friday from 9am to 4:30pm.

Requirements

To be eligible for this course, you must be aged 19 or over and either unemployed and/or receiving eligible benefits.

Drug and alcohol awareness

As part of the programme, you will receive guidance on workplace drug and alcohol policies, including the standards required on major construction projects. Formal testing is only undertaken as part of employer onboarding and induction processes where required.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Core PPE will be provided during training, including:

  • Safety helmet
  • High-visibility vest or jacket
  • Safety boots
  • Protective gloves
  • Eye protection
