MCA approved Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting training provides a basic knowledge of the actions to be taken upon encountering a fire aboard ship, fire detection, prevention, first aid actions and fire team duties including practical exercises and demonstrations of appliances and equipment.

Delegates successfully completing the course will have gained experience and knowledge of:

  • Appreciation of the hazards involved in fire at sea
  • Fire prevention precautions to be taken
  • Fire detection and means of raising the alarm
  • Initial first aid actions on discovery of a fire
  • The duties of members of a fire party and the equipment used
  • Exercises and demonstrations of appliances and equipment

Successful candidates will be awarded a certificate which meets the performance criteria laid down for Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting in accordance with Section V1/1 of the STCW code.

Requirements

The course is physically demanding. Delegates must be physically fit and meet the standard entry requirements for entry into the Merchant Navy.

Assessment

Assessment during the course will be practically based by observation of your basic skills, learned and practiced during training. This can also be taken as part of the 5-day four course combined MCA basic training certificate course.
