MCA approved STCW basic safety training covers the initial training required for all seafarers.

On successful completion candidates will be awarded certificates for four individual subjects in accordance with Section VI/1 of the STCW code.

The overall objective of this training is to give all persons intending to go to sea a basic knowledge of the immediate action to be taken upon encountering an emergency aboard ship and an overview of the safety regime that exists within the Merchant Navy. The training courses covered within this programme are:

  • Personal survival techniques
  • Personal safety and social responsibilities
  • Elementary first aid
  • Fire prevention and fire fighting

  • 02 – 06 September 2019
  • 28 October – 01 November 2019

Requirements

This course is physically demanding. Candidates must be physically fit and meet the standard entry requirements for entry into the Merchant Navy.

Assessment

Assessment during the course will be practically based by observation of basic skills learned and practiced during the training.
