Do you want to develop the knowledge and skills required to help people lead a healthier lifestyle through sport and physical activity? This course combines academic studies with the development of your sport and exercise skills, as well as leadership, organisation and communication.

You may study units including:

  • Anatomy and physiology for sport
  • Planning and leading sports activities
  • Nutrition
  • Fitness testing
  • Fitness training and programming
  • Sports coaching

You can access a range of work experience opportunities whilst studying with us, and we work with a number of stakeholders to provide you with valuable experiences in coaching, leading sports activities and fitness instructing. This includes links with local schools to develop your experience of coaching pupils and to organise a number of sporting events for schools.

You will also benefit from regular free access to our own onsite sports facilities, including our own fitness suite and sports hall, to help you to put knowledge into practice. There are multiple chances to volunteer at local sporting events, and a series of masterclasses, trips and visits from guest speakers to help guide you towards your career in sport.

Requirements

You will need to achieved at least four GCSEs at grade 3 or above.

Assessment

Assessment will be through the successful completion of a portfolio of evidence. Evidence will be generated through:

  • Practical assessments
  • Demonstrations
  • Group assessments
  • Self-reflection
  • Written assessments

Progression

You can progress on to Sport and Physical Activity Level 3.
