Course: Music BTEC
Sixth Form College
FT / PT
The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Music is a 60/120‐cr edit and 360/720 guided learning hour (GLH) qualification which is equivalent to one or two A‐levels. There are two pathways we offer:
- 60 credit Extended Certificate (equal to one A‐Level)
- 120 credit Diploma (equal to 2 A‐levels)
Both are studied over two years, full‐time. This is a perfect course for the creative‐minded student to pair with one of our other creative BTEC courses, e.g. Performing Arts or Creative Media. Such a combination would build a solid foundation for pursuing a career in the creative industries or for progressing onto a degree course.
In recent times the musical artist is required to possess a wide range of skills, such as performing, writing, studio production, promotion and marketing, to name but a few. On the course you will learn all of the skills required for the modern musician. In the first year you will develop your instrumental / vocal skills, learn performance techniques in various musical styles, compose music and learn how to use the industry standard Logic Pro sequencing programme for recording and producing music. You will also have the opportunity to learn how to set-up and use our state-of-the-art recording studio independently. In the second year you will develop these skills further, rehearsing and performing a set as part of a group for the student gig night and studying the workings of the music industry. Finally, you will plan, create and deliver a professional music product of your choice, working to deadlines as part of a production team. This may well be a self-produced album of original songs, a musical theatre piece, a music festival, or even a music book – the choice will be yours to pursue whatever interests you musically.
