This course is perfect for anyone who is interested in a career in TV and film make-up or wanting to progress in the industry and gain a higher accreditation and skill set.

You will cover many areas of make-up and character creation, including:

  • Airbrushing
  • Prosthetics
  • Hair application
  • Bald caps
  • Ageing
  • Dry hairstyling
  • Body paint techniques

You will need to be creative, a great communicator, a team player, reliable and have an interest in current and historical fashions of hair and make-up.

It is important that you have a mature and professional attitude, as the hair and make-up profession is a highly demanding and disciplined one. In particular, you will be required to maintain high standards of personal and professional appearance, including wearing make-up to look presentable; piercings will not have to be covered.

Why study with us:

  • We have great links with industry experts who come in as guest speakers and offer key industry advice and tips
  • We have entered and won numerous national and regional competitions
  • We work with internationally recognised make-up artists such as Karla Powell and Samantha Helen

Requirements

Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of Beauty Therapy Level 2 and/or a successful skill test interview.

You will also need to have achieved at least a grade 4 in English, maths and science. GCSE Art would be an advantage or a keen interest in creative applications.

Assessment

There is continuous assessment of each unit. You present evidence of competence via practical assessments and production of a personal portfolio of evidence.

Progression

You can progress into other areas of the beauty industry or directly into employment.

You will find that there is no defined progression route. The freelance nature of the profession means that you may move between trainee make-up assistant, make-up artist, chief/key make-up artist and designer roles, depending on your experience and confidence within the sector.
