The New Extended Diploma in Business has been devised with the help of higher education institutions, professional bodies (such as the CIPD and the Chartered Institute of Management) and major businesses such as the John Lewis Partnership and Barclays Bank to meet the needs of students wanting to make develop a rewarding career in tomorrow’s businesses (either via higher education directly into employment via an apprenticeship).
You’ll start by learning the basics of business: What are the various types of business? What is a limited company? What is a partnership? Why do some businesses need to employ more managers than others? Who and what influences what a business does? What resources do you need to run a business? What is marketing and why is it so important? Why might you like certain adverts more than others? How do you communicate effectively when working in business? Why is communication so important if you want your business to succeed?

The requirement for this course is 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above to include English Language and mathematics, coupled with an interest in business and an ability to work hard and meet deadlines!
Student achievement in this subject is dependent upon excellent attendance, punctuality, effort and the ability to work flexibly. You will learn in a friendly atmosphere, using a variety of teaching and assessment methods:
1. The majority of assessment is coursework with control assessments which allow students to thoroughly demonstrate their understanding of business topics and concepts.
2. Students will develop skills in communication, teamwork, research and analysis which are valued both in higher education and the workplace.
3. Other teaching and assessment methods include class discussions, interviews, role plays, presentations, class visits and visiting speakers.
The BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in Business Management is equivalent to 3 A Levels and earns you UCAS point allowing you to progress on to University.
