This qualification is designed to provide you with essential knowledge and skills to support individuals with learning disabilities. Suitable for those who are working, volunteering, or on placement in roles where they support individuals with learning disabilities.
Units included in this qualification:
- Understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities
- Principles of positive risk taking for individuals with disabilities
- Principles of supporting an individual to maintain personal hygiene
- Introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions
- Introductory awareness of models of disability
- Understand physical disability
You will gain insights into the historical context, legislation, and policies affecting individuals with learning disabilities. The course also emphasises advocacy, empowerment, and communication strategies to promote inclusion and support.
If you fall under the below categories, you are able to be fully funded for the course:
- Low income – Earning under £25,750 annually before tax. (£2,083.30 monthly / £495.19 weekly)
- UC – On universal credit and taking home £952 (single) or £1534 (joint)
- Unemployed and seeking employment.
- Receiving ESA/JSA
Requirements
There are no specific learning requirements. You will require appropriate level of literacy and willingness to complete the assessment criteria.
Assessment
This is a knowledge-only qualification assessed through a portfolio of evidence, covering 6 units of work that is to be completed in your own time and requires some further reading.
Progression
This qualification enables learners to progress to Level 2 or 3 Diplomas in Health and Social Care.
