Leading the Internal Quality Assurance Processes (IV)

Lowestoft Campus

All individuals who are responsible for the internal quality assurance of assessment process and practice (internal verification) are expected to gain qualifications as an internal quality assurer or verifier (IQA, IV) in order to reach the national occupational standards. This qualification provides an extra unit for leading the quality assurance of assessment for assessors and quality assurers (internal verifiers).

This course could be for you if you are responsible for co-ordinating and monitoring a team of assessors at a particular location or approved centre and, have a key role in maintaining the internal quality assurance of assessment services and verifying internal assessment practice.

The qualification will help you to gain credibility with awarding bodies, employers, colleagues and employees. It will improve your understanding of the principles of internally assuring the quality of competency based assessment and raise your awareness of equality and diversity issues including current legislation. The qualification will also help you to develop a quality assurance system for national occupational standards (NOS) within your organisation.

This course is continuous throughout the year with inductions occurring approximately every two to three months. Please contact Student Services for details of the next available induction.

What can I do after?

You will gain a VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (QCF).

You will need to hold a Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement or equivalent A1, D32, D33 and V1, D34 qualification. If you have already achieved the new Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice, you will need only to undertake the lead unit to gain the certificate.

You must also be in a position to lead an internal quality assurance or verification process and internally assure (verify) the assessment process for national occupational standards (NOS).

There are three units, two practical and one theory.

For the practical units there is a minimum requirement of one practical observation of a verification of one assessor undertaking an assessment of a candidate, plus evidence of three further quality assurance activities (verification) in the workplace, educational or training environment. For this qualification you need to quality assure a minimum of two assessors assessing two candidates each.

You will also need to provide evidence of how you lead, plan, monitor and allocate responsibilities for other assessors and IQAs (verifiers) and maintain a rigorous quality assurance system.

There are four assignments to complete for the theory unit and a final portfolio of evidence.
