East Coast College is introducing Digital Design, a new course aimed at learners interested in the technical side of the creative industries. The course is designed as a pathway into the fields of; Graphic communication, Concept art, Games design, VFX, and Product design. The course now includes an Esports component, where you can choose to investigate this fast-growing global industry.

Digital design is a broad industry focused course which explores how visual ideas and concepts are communicated in diverse digital related fields of design. Students will complete a variety of projects exploring; branding, advertising, 3d modelling, texturing, technical drawing, graphic design, photography, and narrative image making.

While the course is centered on digital processes, traditional hands on techniques such as printmaking and model making will feature, while drawing will be used as a primary method to communicate initial ideas and intentions.

Learners develop an independent practice, building portfolios of work for further progression into level 3 and higher education or employment.

Requirements

Five GCSEs at 9 to 4 or acceptable alternatives; these must include English Language. You will need to bring a portfolio of your work to your interview.

Assessment

Your progress will be continuously monitored, assessed and verified by your tutor. You will keep a record of your achievement in a portfolio, which, together with your final outcomes/art-works, will be verified externally by the Examining Board.

Progression

The next step could be a degree in games development or other Higher Education course within the games field including illustration, animation, design, programming or asset creation amongst others. Career opportunities include animator, modeller, games artist, game designer and many more.
