This has been designed to offer exciting and interesting experiences that focus on learning and developing your knowledge and understanding of the nature of
crime, criminological theories and the criminal justice system.
Diploma: consists of four compulsory units: Units 1-4.
Certificate: consists of two compulsory units: Units 1- 2
- Changing Awareness of Crime – different types of crime, influences on perceptions of crime and why it often goes unreported.
- Criminological Theories – why do people commit crime?
- Crime Scene to Courtroom – the criminal justice system from the moment a crime has been identified to the verdict.
- Crime and Punishment – the application of your knowledge to authentic cases.
You should develop the skills required for independent learning, for solving problems, of project based research and the ability to apply learning in vocational areas. These are highly valued and will be useful for many degree courses and employment areas. Opportunities for visits e.g. the courts and to meet legal professionals will also be available. Assessment is 50% coursework and 50% external examination.
