The Level 2 Diploma in Machining is a one-year course for students aged 16 and up who want to learn the basics of machining. Machining is a key skill in engineering and manufacturing, and this course teaches you how to shape and create metal parts using different machines. The course consists of both theory and practical sessions and is designed for anyone interested in learning the basics of machining and engineering workshop skills. Theory sessions will be delivered in a classroom setting, with our practical sessions being delivered in our industry standard workshop.
Units include:
- Health and Safety in Engineering
- Principles of Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies
- Machine Components using Milling and Turning Techniques
- Using Bench Fitting Techniques
- Using Computer Aided Manufacturing/CNC
Requirements
You will need to have achieved at least grade 3 in English and Maths GCSE.
Assessment
The course combines practical assessments and written assignments. You’ll complete projects in the workshop, where your skills and knowledge will be assessed. Each unit includes tasks where you’ll demonstrate your ability to safely and accurately use machinery and follow technical instructions.
Progression
Progression opportunities include a Level 3 Machining Apprenticeship or full time employment.
