This course will provide you with the opportunity to practice your skills and learn more about working in the Childcare and Education sector from industry professionals and work experience placements.
This course will prepare you to work with children between birth and five years, with knowledge of children up to eight years.
You will also achieve a licence to practise at supervisory level.
Topics you may study include:
- Child development
- Promoting safety
- Safeguarding
- Working with families
- Professionals and professional practice
You will be supported to complete a DBS check (formerly CRB) and will be supported to undertake a relevant childcare work experience placement. Examples are pre-schools, nurseries, schools or working with children with additional needs. The course requires an average of 400 (year 1) and 400 (year 2) hours of related work placement. You will also be supported to undertake a range of activities such as fundraising, teamwork activities and community projects.
Requirements
You will need to have achieved at least 5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including English and maths.
Assessment
Assessment for the Level 3 will be through a range of assessment methods such as:
- Reports
- Essays
- Observations in work placement
- Portfolios of evidence
You will also be regularly observed in your work placement.
Progression
Students are supported to progress on to Degrees such as Children’s Care Learning and Development, Inclusive Practice or Teacher Training, or into related employment such as Early Years Educators or Family Support Workers. Former students are working in childcare settings such as pre-schools, nurseries, schools and hospitals.
