This course is designed for those who want to increase their knowledge and understanding of supporting adults living with cancer. It is suitable for individuals working in the health and social care sectors or those providing informal care.

You will gain insight into the different categories and types of cancer, its prevalence in the UK, and how approaches to cancer care have evolved. The course also covers detection, diagnosis, treatment options, and the impact of cancer on individuals and their families.

The qualification explores the roles of family members and professionals in cancer care, coping strategies for emotional and mental wellbeing, and principles of self-management. It also includes end-of-life and bereavement care, addressing perspectives on death and dying.

Upon completion, you will have a comprehensive understanding of cancer support, enabling them to provide informed and compassionate care. The course is knowledge-based and does not require work placement experience.

  • Low income – Earning under £25,750 annually before tax. (£2,083.30 monthly / £495.19 weekly)
  • UC – On universal credit and taking home £952 (single) or £1534 (joint)

Requirements

There are no specific learning requirements. You will require appropriate level of literacy and willingness to complete the assessment criteria.

Assessment

This is a knowledge-only qualification assessed through a portfolio of evidence, covering 4 units of work that is to be completed in your own time and requires some further reading.

Progression

Successful learners may progress to Level 3 qualifications in health and social care, counselling, or related fields. This course supports your journey toward a rewarding career in care and support.
