This course examines the English Legal system and the personnel within it. It focuses on the operation of the Criminal Justice System, the role of judges, magistrates, solicitors, barristers, within it and the powers of the police.
Students will learn through a variety of teaching methods with teacher led lessons.
Students will produce individual projects and assignments involving research which students will be expected to work on their own account.
It is a one year Level 2 course which will allow progression to BTEC Level 3 or possibly AS Law for the suitable student.
This course consists of three units:
Unit 1: An introduction to the English Legal System
Unit 2: An introduction to police powers and procedures
Unit 4: An introduction to criminal law and procedure
Studying Law at Lowestoft Sixth Form College links well with English, Psychology, Business Studies and Humanities
What We Add
During the course students will have access to the latest developments in the law, will be able to visit the Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court/ Norwich Crown Court and have the opportunity to meet legal personnel within the local area. These will involve people working as magistrates, solicitors , the police and probationary service and the Crown Prosecution Service. Links with local law firms could also mean that students who have a particular interest in law could undertake work experience
Students should have the minimum requirement for the GCSE Fast Track programme. We welcome students who are considering a possible career in the legal professions or law related work and an enthusiasm in the law and the English Legal System. GCSE English at Grade C (4 or 5) or above is preferred.

This course is 100% coursework.
You must complete 3 assignments for each unit.
