All individuals who assess the occupational competence of others in the offshore oil and gas work environment, or vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in related training situations, are expected to gain qualifications as assessors in order to reach the national occupational standard. This course is suitable for frontline assessors, supervisors, managers or trainers involved in assessment.

This qualification will gain individuals or organisations credibility with awarding bodies and improve knowledge and understanding of competency based assessment. The course is designed to develop interpersonal skills, in particular listening skills, constructive feedback, observations and oral questioning techniques, amongst many other methods of assessment. The course will also raise awareness of equality and diversity issues.

You will attend a five day intensive course where you will be inducted to the programme. Content will be delivered by means of presentations by trainers. You will take part in activities to develop your understanding of the assessment process and will experience a standardisation meeting. You will be expected to complete assignments for assessment during the week and submit for assessment. During the week you will be observed assessing at least one candidate undertaking an assessment of occupational competency. A further month will be given to complete three further assessments in the workplace and submit evidence by means of a portfolio of evidence. There will be tutorial support available and technology will be utilised where possible.

Course duration is one month, dates can be arranged on request. For companies wishing to train a minimum of six and a maximum of eight staff members in their own place of work, including international locations, please enquire.
