Richard was keen to explain “The course covered far more than I realised; it was much more practical and incredibly varied, the style of study really suited me. I did animation, film production, sound, radio, journalism, photography, website and graphic design – there is so much to explore! In addition we were really fortunate to work with professional film makers and gain real work experience and create industry links. Highlights for me were working with BBC, BFI and our own film maker tutor, Guy Myhill. We also went on some fantastic international trips visiting film studios in Budapest and New York!”
In addition to the course and links to industry the college works hard to develop “soft skills” - things that can be taken for granted but are incredibly important to employers, like working as a team, being tolerant, leading, presentation skills, personal conduct etc. Richard also involved himself in the college community as a College Ambassador and was always willing to assist with college projects – even after he left college he returned to assist with the production of a promotional film.
It is little wonder that Richard was awarded Student of the Year at the 2016 FE Student Awards.
Richard gained a triple distinction on completion of his BTEC Diploma and is now looking forward to starting his degree at Southampton Solent – alongside two of his classmates from ECC!
