Alopecia UK Awareness Calendar Shoot – Make up Artistry

26/10/2018

Jodie Cheek and students from East Coast College’s Level 3 Diploma in Makeup Artistry course were very lucky to be asked to be make up designers and artists for an Alopecia UK awareness Calendar shoot.

They were given set themes from the organiser and inspiration for each months looks. They then planned and organised a very busy two days of work.

Their experience:

It was amazing to test the student’s skills and to stretch them due to most of the models having no brows or lashes so skills had to be at their best. It was a rewarding and humbling experience working with one of the nicest teams and some of the nicest models, they have ever had the pleasure to work with.

The students did Jodie proud and worked professionally and faced anything that challenged them. The students learnt a lot and it was great to give something back to such a good cause. The delight and wonder of the model’s reactions when they saw the makeup, was just the most rewarding thing for them all. So not only did the students participate and produce makeup of a high standard, they also gave up their time selflessly and contributed towards the confidence and wellbeing of each model. A truly wonderful experience all round.

All About the Calendar:

Shannon Hyne is 25 years old, She has had alopecia for 15 years but only been diagnosed for 10. Alopecia UK has been a charity close to her heart for a very long time, the Facebook support groups made her realise she wasn’t alone.

The idea for a charity calendar came about during a confidence-building shoot she did with a local photographer and his wife. Geraldine suggested doing a calendar to raise money and Shannon instantly jumped at the chance to run it and set it up.

Through the Facebook group, she managed to find 11 other amazing women who wanted to help out and take part. These women grew throughout the day and turned into beautiful models. They then spent a whole weekend shooting the calendar. Not only did they create a calendar, they found lifelong friendships.

With the wonderful team of makeup artists from East Coast Colleges Level 3 Makeup Artistry Course, the incredible photographer Les Martire from Wireloose Photography and his incredible wife, Geraldine, they managed to make it work. Shannon is now getting the calendar’s printed and they are already on sale on my Big Cartel.

Shannon would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who participated and made this calendar dream come true: Les and Geraldine Martire, Jodie Cheek and her team of very talented makeup artists, Angela Barnes who created some beautiful headwear for the shoots, and all of the models, Marie Cooke, Nicky Bratton, Karen Greene, Mandy Vallender, Samantha Knight, Jenny Brett, Bev Cooper Baker, Katrina Lyness, Michelle Akers, and Nina Christensen.

Last but not least, to the sponsors who made all of this possible with their donations, Fantastic Hair, Simply Wigs and Positively Hair.
