Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle) Apprenticeship Standard

Typical duration to gateway: 36 months

Delivery: Weekly day release and off-the-job training

Service & Maintenance Technicians: Ensuring Light Vehicles are Inspected, Repaired and Maintained to Ensure Compliance and Safety

A motor vehicle service and maintenance technician services and repairs light vehicles such as cars and vans and works either in dealerships which focus on a particular manufacturer, or in an independent garage which deals with many different makes of vehicles.

You’ll learn to work both independently and as part of a team, engaging with various departments in larger dealerships or taking on diverse roles in smaller garages. The curriculum covers essential diagnostic methods and troubleshooting techniques, focusing on modern vehicles that incorporate advanced technologies, including zero-emission models. By the end of the programme, you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to excel in the ever-evolving automotive retail industry.

Course Content:

  • Inspecting and servicing vehicles
  • Maintaining the workshop to comply with health and safety legislation
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out the necessary repairs as a solution
  • Providing high quality customer service when dealing with customer enquiries

Entry Requirements:

  • GCSE grade 4 or Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths

If you do not possess these grades, you will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End Point Assessment.
