Most Corporations have standing orders. These determine how the business of the Corporation is to be conducted, how members are appointed, terms of reference for committees and the standards expected of a governor in performing the role. These standards are often referred to as the ‘Seven Principles of Public Life’ and are:
Selflessness – decisions should be taken solely in the public interest.
Integrity – no outside obligation should affect a governor’s performance.
Objectivity – choices should be made on merit alone.
Accountability – governors should be accountable for their decisions to whatever scrutiny is appropriate to their office.
Openness – governors should be as open as possible about all decisions and actions taken.
Honesty – any relevant private interests must be declared and action taken to avoid any conflict of interests.
Leadership – in promoting and supporting these principles by leadership and example.
In addition to the above the standing orders for East Coast College Corporation also include a number of policies and codes of conduct which all members agree to adhere to when they join the Corporation.
