Access to Care, Learning and Development

The course is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to access both the FdA Social Care Practice and FdA Early Years Practice (both of which feed into the level 6 progression year for the award of BA (Hons) Applied Care Practice. The course will also be suitable for students considering teaching, care management or social sciences progression routes. The course will last for one academic year. Students are expected to be in placement/ employment for a minimum of ten hours per week. There is an expectation that students will work on the VLE to support the delivery in college.

Key topic areas studied; Safeguarding Throughout the Lifespan, Equality & Diversity, Collaborative Working, Social Policy & Welfare, Lifespan Development and Transitions, Personal Professional Development, Research Skills.

Requirements

A sufficient standard of Numeracy and English Language is needed to cope with the demands of the course. We strongly advise you to have a GCSE in English language and maths at grade C or above as the majority of university providers will require this. All students will undertake diagnostic assessment to assess these skills during the course interview or induction process and you will be required to demonstrate that you can work at level 2 in these subject areas. Students may be able to study for one GCSE in either English Language or maths alongside the Access course. This will be discussed during the Access interview process.

Assessment

You will be  assessed using a range of methods including presentations, essays, portfolio and an open book exam.

Progression

FdA Social Care Practice or FdA Early Years Practice at UCS Great Yarmouth.

Alternatively, you can go on to study at higher education level at a university of your choice.
