Fashion and Textiles

Please note, this course is only accepting applications from learners aged 16 - 18, as well as those up to the age of 25 who hold a current EHCP.

This course develops your understanding of fashion and textile design through practical projects exploring materials, creative concepts, historical and contemporary influences, and visual communication. You will build essential industry skills by responding to briefs, creating garments and textile outcomes, and developing a professional portfolio of work.

You will showcase your designs through exhibitions and an end-of-year catwalk show, while gaining valuable experience through live projects, industry briefs, gallery visits, guest speakers and links with creative professionals.

Based in specialist studios with industry-standard facilities, you will develop your technical skills, creativity and confidence for progression to university or employment in the creative industries. Opportunities may also include international experiences through the Turing Scheme, helping you explore fashion and textiles within a global context.

Entry requirements

Based on your GCSE results, we will work with you to determine the most appropriate level to start your studies with us. Achieving higher grades may enable you to progress more quickly towards employment or your next step, so we encourage you to achieve the best results possible. Our approach is personalised to each learner. Please note that if you do not achieve a GCSE grade 4 or above in English and Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects alongside your chosen course.

Assessment

Assessment is varied throughout the course and is designed to develop both your practical and academic knowledge. You will be assessed through sketchbooks, you portfolio and an end-of-year exhibition and fashion catwalk show.

Progression

You can progress into employment or university in a range of degrees, including FdA Fashion and Textiles, FdA Professional Photographic Practice, FdA Creative Arts for Health and Wellbeing, BA (Hons) Visual Arts and FdA Visual Effects and Post Production through the University of Suffolk at East Coast College.
