The BA (Hons) Visual Art aims to support you in the development of your creative practice and to equip you with the skills, confidence, and initiative needed to succeed in your career as an artist.

Artists shape our world. Every day we interact with the work of artists through films, galleries, media, advertisements, clothes, websites, computer games and the built environment – to name but a few. Artists do not wait to be told what to make. They are pioneers, innovators & entrepreneurs who push the boundaries of visual communication. After they have opened the door, we can enter the room. So, what kind of artist do you want to be?

This course is about developing your visual creativity. We will support you in your quest to master techniques and process. We will also encourage you to think broadly across disciplines. We will help you become versatile, adaptable, resilient, and entrepreneurial and we will help you learn to learn and develop ways to keep growing and exploring your subject.

You will be prepared for a career after university and develop professional competencies like communication skills, independent working, writing, organisation and team work. You will also develop skills related to promoting and selling your work, engage in live projects, competitions and exhibitions and explore how your work can engage with wider audiences. You will engage with industry and see how your creative ideas can help fulfil the aims of professional organisations.

You will study modules including:

  • Materials and Processes
  • Engaging with an Audience
  • Contextual Studies
