Foundation & Progression

Overview

Our Foundation & Progression provision is designed to help young people with additional learning needs, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), develop the confidence, independence and practical skills they need to achieve their personal goals. Through a supportive and inclusive learning environment, students follow personalised programmes that build essential English, maths, employability, communication and independent living skills, while developing social confidence and preparing for adulthood.

Every learner is supported throughout their journey by experienced tutors, co-educators, transition staff and job coaches, ensuring they receive the guidance they need to succeed. Students benefit from enrichment activities, work experience, volunteering opportunities and travel training, alongside clear progression pathways into further education, supported or independent living, community participation, volunteering or employment. Our focus is on helping every student realise their potential and take their next steps with confidence.

How does the college help students become more independent?

Students can take part in travel training, independent living activities and community-based learning to build the confidence and practical skills needed for everyday life.

Mock Home and Kitchen

The Foundation facilities at the Great Yarmouth Campus include a realistic mock home and kitchen environment designed to support learners in developing essential independent living skills. This practical space allows students to build confidence through hands-on learning, including preparing meals, managing household tasks, and developing everyday life skills in a safe and supportive setting.

Garden

The Foundation Garden provides a welcoming outdoor learning environment where students can develop practical skills, enjoy sensory experiences, and take part in activities that promote wellbeing, confidence, and independence. The space encourages learners to engage with nature while building teamwork, communication, and personal development skills through meaningful activities.

Coffee Pod

The Foundation Coffee Pod offers a social and practical learning space where students can develop valuable workplace skills in a supportive setting. Through activities linked to hospitality, customer service, and food preparation, learners can gain confidence, improve communication skills, and experience elements of a real working environment.
